Pakistan, as usual, is continuously facing from issues of sexual violence and gang rape is one the common threats. Men are too much indulged in this activity thus feeling women to be out of security across Pakistan. Men need to change their behavior so that effective security of women across street can be ensured.
A few days ago, a woman travelling by train going from Multan to Karachi was continuously sexually violence with gang rape which is alarming situation for the country to be indulged in this worse habit.
The question that has to be answered is not why the victim was travelling by themselves. Rather than that, the question that has to be raised is this one: why was adequate security not provided on board, which could have averted this awful crime? PR was responsible for ensuring that the company was adhering to the terms of the contract; yet, the private corporation owed a duty of care to the individuals who used the service that it operated.
The fallout from instances of this nature is significant. Aside from the long-term trauma that the victim in this case is likely to suffer, women in general are left — once again — feeling ever more insecure in the public space; the message to them is that without the “protection” of a man, they are easy prey. In addition, the victim in this case is likely to suffer long-term trauma.
In the infamous Motorway gang rape of 2020, which took place on the outskirts of Lahore and involved a woman being assaulted in front of her minor children, there was a public outcry against the city police chief for suggesting that the victim bore some responsibility for her ordeal because she was out late at night. In this case, the woman had been assaulted in front of her children.
In the same manner as before, the suspects need to be prosecuted and punished as soon as possible. And all modes of public transportation need to have appropriate security measures installed on board; the safety of women is a good indicator of the ideals of a nation.
